Book ReviewBook Summary

The Book “ Karma” demystifies the notion created for generations about Karma that it is an account of good and bad deeds. It is divided into 3 parts :

1st part explores Karma as a source of entanglement and unravels the true essence of Karma.

2nd part explores the possibility of freedom from the entanglement of Karma through Karma Yoga

3rd Part addresses frequently asked questions on Karma. The book effortlessly explains the profound intricacies of Karma systematically, rationally, and scientifically. It serves as a guide to see Karma as a boon and not a curse.

Book Review : Karma by Sadhguru

“Karma” is no doubt one of the only books I have come across in my life that explains Karma so convincingly and pragmatically without leaving any further doubt in the reader’s mind. One of the sentences that I found profoundly impactful for the new generation to understand Karma  without attaching any religious or philosophical beliefs is that

“ Karma is not a creed, a scripture an ideology, a philosophy, or a theory. It is simply the way things are. It is an existential mechanism”

This sentence beautifully bridges the gap between the religious and scientific explanation of this complex word Karma.

So how does Karma get Accumulated?

Karma is an existential mechanism of action that is performed on three levels body, mind, and energy. Whatever you do on these three levels leaves a certain residue. Our five senses collect data from the outside world. This huge volume of sense impressions slowly shapes into behavioral tendencies. These clusters of tendencies harden over time into what we call your personality or what you claim to be your true nature, is nothing but accumulations of these tendencies.

How do we free ourselves from the cycles of Karma?

For this Sadguru offers both simple solutions through performing certain sadhana’s as well as extensive solutions through Karma Yoga. This Chapter was a bit difficult for me to grasp as I never explored the topic of Karma Yoga before. Yet it was profound and interesting. Answered many of my vague queries which I kept in my mind for years.

Every chapter of the book is loaded with priceless wisdom. There are anecdotes sprinkled throughout the book to make it easier to understand this complex topic. This book contains clusters of valuable information scattered all over the place.

Yes, the book also has a lot of complex details in between which you won’t be able to relate or grasp completely until it is in our experience. That is why I feel this book is not just a book but a contemporary bible of Karma which needs to be reread various times by the reader at different stages of life to find the relevance. As each individual is going through different stages of evolution.

There is so much noteworthy to take from this valuable book that I have planned to take a hard copy for myself to pass it on to my future generations as a must-read book in one’s lifetime.

We are the luckiest generation to have clear access to the answers to the age-old misconceptions about Karma and Human existence which is so beautifully summarized in this book .With various relatable anecdotes by “Sadhguru”. Without being too biased “Sadhguru” has been one of my favorite spiritual leaders who has inspired my actions in so many ways through his priceless perceptions of seeing things as it is. I wish to cherish this book as my most precious treasure.

The book review given by Deepak Chopra , a well-known Physician and Author, completely resonates with my opinion of this book. He says “Finally a book on karma that solves the mystery of karma with simplicity clarity and hopefulness.

Who should read this book?

  • Spiritual Seekers
  • People who feel they are stuck in the same behavioral cycle.
  • People who have various existential queries
  • People with Mental Health issues
  • People curious to know karma in detail .
  • All individuals who wish to start their self-transformation journey
  • Beyond all the above reasons I believe every individual should read this book as this book has demystified the age-old wrong beliefs about karma and restored the original potential of the word “Karma” from being a bad deed to the only transformative force available for human transformation.
